Charlotte Mae Albert, 82, wife of the late Rev. Charles E. Albert, Sr., died on Monday, August 11, 2014. She was born to Charles F. Latten and Marguerite L. Latten on September 17, 1931. A lifelong resident of Mamaroneck, she had recently relocated to live with her daughter in Anderson, California. Charlotte graduated from Mamaroneck High School where she was the first African-American cheerleader at the high school and active in other clubs and sports. Another of her significant achievements was becoming the first black woman manager at IBM in lower Westchester in 1968. She was employed with IBM for 25 years as a first and second line manager before retiring in 1987. She continued to use her managerial skills for the Strait Gate Church’s in-house bookstore. She was an integral part of growing the business to a storefront, the Westchester Christian Bookstore in White Plains. Charlotte served faithfully as an elder and church mother and in many other ministries at Strait Gate, where she worshipped with her family since joining in 1958. She leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Alma Ayers of Dayton, Ohio; her three children, Charles Jr., Gordon and Cheryle; six grandchildren; five great grands; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Wise; brothers-in-law, Sidney and David Albert; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Her memorial service will be held on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 7:30 pm at the Strait Gate Church, 120 Madison St., Mamaroneck, NY 10543.
