Abraham Leon Halpern, M.D. Born 2/2/1925 in Warsaw, Poland. Died 4/20/2013 as a result of an earlier fall. His family emigrated to Canada in 1927. As a teenager, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during WWII. After the Korean War, he was honorably discharged at the rank of Lieutenant Surgeon Commander. A medical school graduate of the University of Toronto, he practiced psychiatry for over 50 years and was a leader in the subspecialty of forensic psychiatry. Awards from the American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association, and from many other organizations of medicine reflect a life dedicated to human rights. He marched with Martin Luther King, Jr. in Selma, fought against China’s torture of the Falun Gong and illegal organ transplantation, the misuse of the insanity defense, and forced psychiatric hospitalization without judicial review. He was a national and international leader against the involvement of physicians in capital punishment and also physician participation in coerced interrogations of prisoners. All were subject of his prolific publications. He is survived by his beloved wife Marilyn, and his loved children (and spouses) Howard, Lon (Barbara), Marnen (Herdis), Chaia (Adam), Mark (Tomoko), Emily, and John. He was an adoring grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of 5. Services will be at Zion Memorial Chapel, 785 E. Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck, NY on 4/23/2013 at 11AM, Interment to follow at King David Cemetery in Putnam Valley.

Michael F. Angarano of Harrison passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side on April 19, 2013. He was 93. Michael was born in Norwich, CT to the late Pasquale and Celeste Angarano. He proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII. It was during those years that he met his wife of 65 years, the late Gladys (Haskel) Angarano. She was the love of his life! He lived in Harrison for over 50 years and was a member of the Rotary Club and local VFW. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed working on the house, gardening, reading and traveling most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his cherished children Michael (Sandy), Pasquale “Patsy” (Ada), Dominic (Rita) and Christine (Brian). He is also survived by his 12 adoring grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was also predeceased by his loving daughter Marie. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at COXE & GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME 767 E. Boston Post Rd Mamaroneck. 914-698-5968. Funeral Mass Wednesday 10am at St. Gregory the Great RC Church. Interment is private.

Charles Joseph Hessler, a lifelong resident of the Village of Mamaroneck, passed peacefully on April 19, 2013 at age 93. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 65 years, Ethel “Rusty” (Kerr) Hessler. Also survived by his four children, Barbara Kapsiak (Thomas) of New Milford, CT, Elizabeth Peloso (Paul Abrahamsen) of Mamaroneck, Carolyn Koller (Dan) of Millersville, MD and Charles W. Hessler (Wendy) of Palmyra, NJ; 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Mr. Hessler was a veteran of WWII having served in the Navy. He is a former member of the Rye Town and Village of Mamaroneck Republican Committee and the Village of Mamaroneck Harbor Commission. He also served as a legislative correspondent of the Long Island League of Saltwater Sportsmen and past Commodore of the Harbor Island Boat Club. Mr. Hessler was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was the President and Owner of J.D. Brophy Inc. of Harrison, NY from 1970-2008. In 2012 he was inducted into the Westchester County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him. Family will receive friends on Saturday, April 27th 9-11am at Coxe and Graziano Funeral Home where a service will begin at 11am. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Rocco Ricci of Harrison passed away peacefully at home with his loving family at his side. He was 81. Rocco was born in Roccasecca, P.Frosinone, Italy to the late Angelo & Maria Ricci. He was a professional landscaper for over 50 years. Besides his family, he also loved his garden and making homemade wine. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Luigia “Gina” Ricci, his cherished children Antonia Marino (Santo), Remo Ricci (Nina) and John Ricci. His beloved grandchildren Santo Jr, Noelle, Remo Jr, Jaclyn, Lauren and Nikko and great grandchildren Elizabeth and Jessica. Rocco was sadly predeceased by his grandson Tony Marino in 1997. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5 – 9pm at COXE & GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME 767 E. Boston Post Rd. Mamaroneck. 914-698-5968. Funeral Mass on Saturday at 10am at St. Gregory the Great RC Church. Entombment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
