Anne R. Lavan of Rye formerly of Farmindale, NY passed away on April 16, 2013 peacefully at her home in The Osborn at age 80. Anne was born in the Belle Harbor section of Queens, to the late Thomas and Mary McCabe. Anne devoted her life to her family and was the beloved wife of 55 years to Thomas J. Lavan whom she met at Fordham University. She is also the cherished mother of Maryanne Lavan Harris (Larry), Laura Van Buren (Matt), Thomas J. Lavan III (Lisa), Roger Lavan (Laura), Brian Lavan (Carolyn), Peter Lavan (Kathleen) and the late Matthew J. Lavan. Dear sister of Thomas McCabe (Eileen) and the late Mary Jane Berkery. Loving grandmother of Kylie, Roger, Mikayla, Cooper, Kaitlyn, Zachary, Jack, Colin, Brandlye, Thomas, Christian, Andrew and Brian. Antoinette (Nay Nay) Giuliano passed away peacefully on April 18, 2013 with her family by her side. She was 84. Antoinette was married to her husband Vincent for 63 years, who predeceased her in January. She is survived by her loving children, Laura (Mike), Christine (Robert) and Vincent (Susan). An adored Nanni to Bobby, Ariana, Ashley, Danisha, Chelsea, EJ and Bryan and great grandchildren Alexis and Xaviar. Also survived by her loving sister Theresa and many nieces and nephews. Nay Nay was a member of the Centurettes and The Red Hat Society and an avid Yankees fan. She was a dear friend and personal assistant for 43 years to Dr. Esther Robbins and her late husband Dr. Elliott Robbins. We would like to thank our wonderful family and friends for their love and support during these last three difficult months. Knowing that Mom and Dad are together again, brings peace and comfort to us. They’ll be forever in our hearts.

Antonio Zagaroli, of Mamaroneck, passed on April 19, 2013 at age 87. Born in France on June 22, 1925, his family moved to Italy and settled in the United States in the 1950’s. Antonio worked for many years as a stone mason for Romani & Picco Construction. He also worked as a groundskeeper for Maple Moor Golf Course. Antonio’s favorite past time was his cherished vegetable garden and fig trees which he loved to share with all of his family and friends. He is the beloved husband of Francesca (Lancia). In addition to his wife he is survived by his loving children, Domenic Zagaroli and Anna Santilli (Joseph), and dear grandchildren, Paul (Desirae), Joseph and Danielle. Abraham Leon Halpern, M.D. Born 2/2/1925 in Warsaw, Poland. Died 4/20/2013 as a result of an earlier fall. His family emigrated to Canada in 1927. As a teenager, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during WWII. After the Korean War, he was honorably discharged at the rank of Lieutenant Surgeon Commander. A medical school graduate of the University of Toronto, he practiced psychiatry for over 50 years and was a leader in the subspecialty of forensic psychiatry. Awards from the American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association, and from many other organizations of medicine reflect a life dedicated to human rights. He marched with Martin Luther King, Jr. in Selma, fought against China’s torture of the Falun Gong and illegal organ transplantation, the misuse of the insanity defense, and forced psychiatric hospitalization without judicial review. He was a national and international leader against the involvement of physicians in capital punishment and also physician participation in coerced interrogations of prisoners. All were subject of his prolific publications. He is survived by his beloved wife Marilyn, and his loved children (and spouses) Howard, Lon (Barbara), Marnen (Herdis), Chaia (Adam), Mark (Tomoko), Emily, and John. He was an adoring grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of 5. Services will be at Zion Memorial Chapel, 785 E. Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck, NY on 4/23/2013 at 11AM, Interment to follow at King David Cemetery in Putnam Valley.

Michael F. Angarano of Harrison passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side on April 19, 2013. He was 93. Michael was born in Norwich, CT to the late Pasquale and Celeste Angarano. He proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII. It was during those years that he met his wife of 65 years, the late Gladys (Haskel) Angarano. She was the love of his life! He lived in Harrison for over 50 years and was a member of the Rotary Club and local VFW. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed working on the house, gardening, reading and traveling most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his cherished children Michael (Sandy), Pasquale “Patsy” (Ada), Dominic (Rita) and Christine (Brian). He is also survived by his 12 adoring grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Charles Joseph Hessler, a lifelong resident of the Village of Mamaroneck, passed peacefully on April 19, 2013 at age 93. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 65 years, Ethel “Rusty” (Kerr) Hessler. Also survived by his four children, Barbara Kapsiak (Thomas) of New Milford, CT, Elizabeth Peloso (Paul Abrahamsen) of Mamaroneck, Carolyn Koller (Dan) of Millersville, MD and Charles W. Hessler (Wendy) of Palmyra, NJ; 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Mr. Hessler was a veteran of WWII having served in the Navy. He is a former member of the Rye Town and Village of Mamaroneck Republican Committee and the Village of Mamaroneck Harbor Commission. He also served as a legislative correspondent of the Long Island League of Saltwater Sportsmen and past Commodore of the Harbor Island Boat Club. Mr. Hessler was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was the President and Owner of J.D. Brophy Inc. of Harrison, NY from 1970-2008. In 2012 he was inducted into the Westchester County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him. Family will receive friends on Saturday, April 27th 9-11am at Coxe and Graziano Funeral Home where a service will begin at 11am. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Rocco Ricci of Harrison passed away peacefully at home with his loving family at his side. He was 81. Rocco was born in Roccasecca, P.Frosinone, Italy to the late Angelo & Maria Ricci. He was a professional landscaper for over 50 years. Besides his family, he also loved his garden and making homemade wine. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Luigia “Gina” Ricci, his cherished children Antonia Marino (Santo), Remo Ricci (Nina) and John Ricci. His beloved grandchildren Santo Jr, Noelle, Remo Jr, Jaclyn, Lauren and Nikko and great grandchildren Elizabeth and Jessica. Rocco was sadly predeceased by his grandson Tony Marino in 1997. James L. Barnett of Rye Brook, passed away on April 25, 2013 at age 79. Jim was born in NYC to the late Ben and Helen Barnett. He was a graduate of the Wharton School of Finance, University of Pennsylvania “Class of 1955” and went on to obtain a MBA degree from the Bernard Baruch School of Business. He worked most of his career as the Chief Executive Officer for Publix Shirt Corp. Beloved husband of Sue, devoted father to David Barnett (Beth), Amy Spadafino (Frank). Pop Pop to Jonathan, Peter, Mia Spadafino and Danielle and Julia Barnett. Loving brother to Alice Schachter (Sherman). Jim will be deeply missed and forever in our memory.

Gerald “Jerry” Russell Rivalsi
Gerald (“Jerry”) Russell Rivalsi passed away peacefully in the presence of family on April 29, 2013, at age 74, after a brief illness. Jerry was born in the Throgg’s Neck section of Bronx to the late Armand and Isabelle Nelson Rivalsi. For a number of his early adult years he lived in Lower Westchester County, but moved to City Island in 1976 shortly after he met his future wife, Susan Statkowski-Rivalsi, there. They were married on City Island in 1983 and continued to reside there until 2009, when they moved to Somers, NY. Jerry spent his entire working life with Rivalsi Paving Corporation, which was founded by his father. Jerry and Susan were avid boaters and members of City Island’s Harlem Yacht Club for 16 years. Jerry is survived by his beloved wife Susan, his cherished son, Steven, and daughter-in-law Philomena, and his precious grandchildren Isabella and Lucas. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Marie Statkowski, sisters-in-law, Marie Sandauer (Bruce) and Stephanie Statkowski (John Garrone); brother-in-law, Henry Statkowski (Sharon), a niece, nephews, great nieces, a great nephew and many adoring cousins and friends. Isabel Bras DaSilva-Homem, 40, of Harrison, N.Y., passed away from Acute Leukemia in the early morning of May 1, 2013.
Isabel was born Sept 14, 1972 in White Plains, N.Y., the only child of Manuel DaSilva and Maria Luisa DeSilva. On June 24, 1995, she married Manuel Homem in Rye, N.Y. They have four children; Ryan 14, Thomas 10 and twins Alex and Lauren, 9.
Isabel was a Rye High School Graduate and received her bachelors from IONA College.
Isabel worked at Amscan in Elmsford, N.Y. as a product coordinator for more than 15 years.
Isabel loved the ocean, traveling, baking and spending quality time with her children and family.
